factory farms
Super Foods strives for sustainability. One of our goals is to ensure that we are retailing food that is humanely produced and sustainable. Factory farming is one of the biggest threats to sustainable food culture, and extremely detrimental to the environment and public health.
According to a recent study from the U.S Department of Agriculture, "37% of methane emissions result from factory farming." This is obviously a dangerous quantity, considering methane is more toxic to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, and along with it is one of the largest contributors of green house gas. Factory farming is cruel just as it is harmful to the earth. Animals are slaughtered inhumanely, and in bacteria infested holdings. To meet food retail quotas animals are often fed antibiotics of which 80% antibiotic resistance. The Food Retail Industry has depended on factory farming which is not sustainable and ethically, and environmentally volatile.
